Road transportation
• Transportation of the body to Russia and the CIS:

Regardless of the mode of transportation (aircraft, road transport), delivery of cargo 200 is a highly responsible task, complex both documentarily and organisationally.
This procedure requires compliance with specific conditions (storage, transportation of the body) and involves the preparation of numerous permit documents for the transportation of cargo.
Tanzania, located in East Africa with a population of over 63 million, encompasses the mainland and the Zanzibar archipelago. Dar es Salaam — home to approximately 7 million people — is the country's commercial capital and the hub for most international flights and diplomatic missions. Dodoma serves as the official political capital. Arusha, with around 600,000 residents, is the gateway city for Serengeti safaris, the Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro — and receives thousands of international travellers each year, including climbers attempting the highest peak in Africa. Zanzibar, with its predominantly Muslim population and historic Swahili culture, has become one of the most popular beach destinations for European tourists. Citizens of Belarus and other former Soviet states travel to Tanzania in considerable numbers for safari holidays, Kilimanjaro expeditions and Zanzibar beach stays. The distance from Dar es Salaam to Minsk is approximately 7,500 km — a flight of 10 to 14 hours with transit. Death registration in Tanzania is handled by RITA — the Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency. The official death certificate, known as a Cheti cha Kifo, is issued through this authority following medical certification at a hospital or mortuary. In cases of sudden, violent or unexplained death, a post-mortem examination by a government pathologist is mandatory before the certificate can be issued. Once the Cheti cha Kifo is obtained, a series of additional permits must be secured: a sanitary embalming certificate from a licensed mortuary, and a body export permit from the Tanzanian Ministry of Health. An important legal detail: Tanzania is not a signatory to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. This means documents cannot be apostilled — they must instead undergo full consular legalisation. The Russian Embassy in Dar es Salaam (Laibon Road, Upanga district) handles the required authorisation. All original documents are issued in Swahili and/or English and must be translated into Russian. We manage the entire documentation chain on your behalf, from the initial RITA registration to the Ministry of Health export permit and consular legalisation.
The primary departure point for international repatriation flights is Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam (DAR). Where death occurs on Zanzibar (served by Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, ZNZ) or in the Arusha region (served by Kilimanjaro International Airport, JRO), the body is transported to DAR — by domestic flight or road — before the international leg. Key routes from DAR to Minsk include: Qatar Airways via Doha (DOH), one of the most reliable options with consistent frequency; Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST), offering broad connection options; Emirates via Dubai (DXB), particularly useful during high-demand periods; and KLM via Amsterdam (AMS), providing a European transit connection. Total journey time with a single transit is typically 10 to 14 hours. The body is transported in a hermetically sealed zinc coffin placed inside a sealed wooden outer crate, in full compliance with ICAO and IATA regulations. Given Tanzania's tropical climate, embalming must be carried out before the body is sealed in the zinc coffin. From the moment all permits are in place, the body is typically ready for departure within two to three days.
Tanzania and Belarus share the same time zone — both are UTC+3 — which allows our team to coordinate in real time without the complication of large time differences. Our service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including local public holidays in both countries. We coordinate in Russian, Belarusian and English, and can engage Swahili interpretation where needed. Tanzania is a religiously diverse country: approximately 61% of the population is Christian, around 35% is Muslim, and Zanzibar is heavily Muslim. Where death occurs within a Muslim community — particularly on Zanzibar — we are mindful of Islamic requirements regarding timely and dignified handling of the deceased. A frequent scenario we handle is death during a Kilimanjaro climb: acute mountain sickness, hypothermia and cardiac events are known risks above 5,800 metres. In such cases, initial medical documentation is processed through a hospital or clinic in Arusha before RITA registration proceeds. Deaths during safari travel in the Serengeti or remote national parks also require logistical preparation for ground transport of the body to Arusha or Dar es Salaam. The Russian Embassy in Dar es Salaam is located at Laibon Road, Upanga; we are familiar with its procedures and work to avoid unnecessary delays.
We understand that losing a family member more than 7,000 kilometres from home is an experience that combines grief with bureaucratic disorientation in an unfamiliar system on another continent. The cost of repatriation from Tanzania is calculated individually for each case: it depends on the departure airport (DAR, JRO or ZNZ), the chosen flight route, coffin weight, the volume of consular and translation services required, and whether ground transportation from a remote area — a mountain camp, a national park — is necessary. Every cost element is set out in a written contract before work begins. There are no hidden charges and no verbal commitments. If the deceased held travel insurance, we assist with filing the claim and, where possible, bill the insurer directly. Your first consultation is free and carries no obligation. Please call us at any time: +375 29 314-59-59 (also available on WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram). You may also write to info@repatriation.by. We have been guiding families through international repatriation since 2009, including from remote locations across Africa, and we will be with you at every step.
The required documents are: the Cheti cha Kifo (death certificate issued by RITA), a post-mortem report if cause of death was unnatural or unclear, a sanitary embalming certificate from a licensed Tanzanian mortuary, a body export permit from the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, and authorisation from the Russian Embassy in Dar es Salaam. Since Tanzania is not party to the Apostille Convention, consular legalisation replaces apostille. All documents are translated into Russian. We prepare the complete package from start to finish.
Yes, both are required without exception. ICAO and IATA regulations mandate a hermetically sealed zinc coffin in a sealed wooden outer crate for all air transport of human remains. Embalming is especially critical given Tanzania's tropical climate, and must be completed at a licensed mortuary in Dar es Salaam before the body is sealed. The Tanzanian sanitary authorities issue an embalming certificate, which forms part of the mandatory document package for the Ministry of Health export permit. We coordinate all preparation with our established local partners.
Once all permits are in place, the body is typically ready for departure within two to three days. The flight from DAR to Minsk, with a single transit through Doha, Istanbul or Dubai, takes 10 to 14 hours. If a post-mortem is required, waiting for the pathologist's report can extend the total process by five to ten days. Deaths in remote locations — on Kilimanjaro slopes or inside national parks — require additional time for ground transport to Arusha or Dar es Salaam. Our coordinator begins working immediately to compress each stage.
The cost is calculated individually based on the departure airport (DAR, JRO or ZNZ), flight route, coffin weight, the scope of consular and translation services, and whether transportation from a remote area is required. All costs are itemised in a written contract before any work begins — there are no hidden fees. If the deceased held travel insurance, we assist with the claims process and can liaise directly with the insurer. Call for a free, no-obligation consultation: +375 29 314-59-59.
