Road transportation
• Transportation of the body to Russia and the CIS:

Regardless of the mode of transportation (aircraft, road transport), delivery of cargo 200 is a highly responsible task, complex both documentarily and organisationally.
This procedure requires compliance with specific conditions (storage, transportation of the body) and involves the preparation of numerous permit documents for the transportation of cargo.
Repatriation of a deceased person from Belarus to Chile is a rare but technically complex route requested by mixed Belarusian-Chilean families in Santiago, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Clients include descendants of Russian emigrants (first wave 1905-1914, second wave 1947-1953), as well as modern scientists who came to Chile under astronomical observatory programs in the Atacama desert, whose relatives died in Belarus. A separate category is repatriation of Chilean expats and diplomats who passed away in Minsk. Chile is one of the most geographically remote countries from Belarus.
Documentation in Belarus includes a Minsk ZAGS death certificate, State Forensic Committee medical report, Ministry of Health export permit and infection-free certificate. Chile joined the Hague Convention in 2016, so a Belarus MFA apostille (Lenina 19) is sufficient without consular legalisation. Documents are translated into Spanish by a sworn translator recognised by Chilean authorities — translation with endorsement by Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile is preferred. A sanitary certificate for SAG (Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero) and Minsal is additionally prepared.
Logistics from Minsk-2 (MSQ) to Chile is among the longest in the world (only Auckland and Wellington are further). Optimal schemes: Iberia via Madrid (MAD) to Santiago (SCL) — 20-24 hours; Air France via Paris (CDG) to SCL with LATAM code-share; KLM via Amsterdam (AMS); Lufthansa via Frankfurt (FRA); alternative Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST) to São Paulo (GRU) with LATAM connection to SCL. Main receiving airports: Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez (SCL), Antofagasta (ANF), Iquique (IQQ), Puerto Montt (PMC), Punta Arenas (PUQ), Easter Island (IPC).
On arrival in Chile the body clears Servicio Nacional de Aduanas customs and Minsal/SAG sanitary control. Our partner Chilean empresas funerarias (Hogar de Cristo, Funeraria Casablanca in Santiago, Funeraria La Porciúncula in Valparaíso) meet the cargo and coordinate with the Russian Embassy in Santiago (American Vespucio Sur 2467, Las Condes). The body is handed over for burial under Catholic (predominant 60% tradition), Protestant, Orthodox or secular rites. Chile requires a Certificado de Defunción Extranjero certified by Registro Civil.
We operate 24/7 no days off — on Chilean holidays (Navidad, Año Nuevo, Fiestas Patrias 18-19 September, Día del Trabajo 1 May, Glorias Navales 21 May, Inmaculada Concepción 8 December, Semana Santa) and Belarusian ones. Repatriation cost from Minsk to Chile is 9500-12000 EUR. This is the highest in South America due to route length and two connections. Fixed quote includes embalming, zinc coffin, documents with apostille, Spanish translations, air freight, customs, SAG, funeraria handover. Call +375 29 314-59-59.
We deliver to all major Chilean cities: Santiago (SCL), Antofagasta (ANF), Iquique (IQQ), Calama (CJC), La Serena (LSC), Valparaíso (via SCL), Concepción (CCP), Temuco (ZCO), Valdivia (ZAL), Puerto Montt (PMC), Coyhaique (GXQ), Punta Arenas (PUQ). For Easter Island (Isla de Pascua IPC) — a separate LATAM flight once weekly. Onward ground transport accounts for Chile's elongated geography (4300 km north to south) and domestic LATAM/Sky Airline flights for remote destinations.
In Belarus: ZAGS certificate, forensic report, Ministry of Health permit, infection-free certificate, embalming statement, zinc coffin sealing act. All with Spanish translation and MFA apostille. In Chile: Minsal body import permit, SAG sanitary certificate, Servicio Nacional de Aduanas declaration, Russian consular note, Certificado de Defunción Extranjero from Registro Civil, municipal burial permit. The complete package is prepared turnkey with Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores endorsement layer.
The full cycle from time of death to arrival in Santiago is 6-8 days. This is longer than standard due to two connections and the long route. Belarus processing with apostille and embalming — 2-3 days, transport to MSQ and cargo check-in — 1 day, flight with Europe + Latin America connections — 22-28 hours. Customs and SAG at SCL — 8-14 hours. For Chilean regions add a domestic segment 2-5 hours depending on distance from Santiago, longer for Patagonia.
Base cost to Santiago (SCL) from 9500 EUR; to northern regions (Antofagasta, Iquique) and south (Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas) from 10500 EUR; to Easter Island from 12000 EUR. Quote includes embalming, zinc coffin and outer wooden casket, full document package with apostille, Spanish translations, Iberia/Air France + LATAM final air freight, Servicio Nacional de Aduanas customs, SAG, funeraria handover. LATAM domestic flights add 400-900 EUR depending on region.
Yes, a hermetically sealed zinc coffin is mandatory under Minsal, SAG, IATA and Chilean sanitary requirements. In Minsk sealing is performed at the State Morgue or certified private agencies with an airtightness statement in Belarusian and Spanish. The zinc container is placed inside an outer wooden casket with 'Restos Humanos' marking. The funeraria in Chile has the right to open the zinc for velatorio open-casket rite preparation — accepted in Catholic tradition. For cremation Registro Civil permit is required.
The apostille is issued at the Main Consular Department of Belarus MFA at Lenina 19, Minsk. Booking via mfa.gov.by or in person, processing 1-3 working days, state fee one base unit. Chile has been a Hague Convention member since 2016, so an apostille is sufficient without consular legalisation. Spanish translation by a sworn translator with subsequent endorsement at Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile is prepared in parallel for full Registro Civil recognition across all Chilean regions.
Yes, the accompanying person flies on the same flight in the passenger cabin while the body travels in the cargo hold as AVI/HUM. For entry to Chile, Belarusian citizens do not need a visa for up to 90 days (visa-free since 2019 for tourist purposes), but a Tourism Certificate must be completed online at Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) site. For funeral accompaniment we provide a funeraria letter. Duration up to 90 days, extension via Departamento de Extranjería if needed.
Since 2019 Belarusian citizens can enter Chile visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism and funeral purposes. A passport valid 6+ months, return ticket, purpose-of-travel confirmation (funeraria invitation, our documents) are required. At the border a Tarjeta de Turismo is completed and a 90-day stamp is issued. For longer stays (e.g. funeral waiting) a visa is issued at the Chilean embassy in Moscow or via online system. We prepare the supporting documents.
Yes, dispatch operates 24/7 all 365 days. On Chilean holidays (Navidad 25 December, Año Nuevo, Fiestas Patrias 18-19 September — the main holiday, Día del Trabajo 1 May, Glorias Navales 21 May, Inmaculada Concepción 8 December, Semana Santa, Día de la Virgen del Carmen 16 July, Día de la Raza 12 October) — Aduanas and SAG operate at airports, funerarias may close. Belarusian holidays halt ZAGS and MFA. Flights run without interruption through European hubs.
A typical situation for Chilean astronomers and scientists working in Belarus under scientific exchange — the passport may be at the university or lost. We immediately engage a lawyer to liaise with the Chilean embassy in Moscow for an urgent salvoconducto (temporary return document), while Minsk ZAGS registers death on available data. Forensic examination follows the protocol. Body preparation and zinc coffin sealing begin immediately in parallel so as not to lose time during consular document recovery.
